
Fruity Maamoul
Fruity Maamoul made to delight - nutritiously!
Ingredients

Maamoul dough:
-
3/4 cup whole wheat flour or all purpose flour

1/4 cup fine semolina
-
1/4 tsp Instant Yeast
-
A pinch of salt when using unsalted butter

1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
-
1/2 tsp dry ginger powder
-
1/4 cup butter
-
1/2 cup milk
-
Filling:
-
1/2 cup dates
-
1/2 cup walnuts
-
1 tsp orange zest
Steps to Sunshine!

Making the Maamoul dough:
1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
2. Melt the butter and rub it into the flour, until the dough begins to crumble.
3. Add milk in small portions while bringing the dough together. Do not knead the dough. Keep it soft and pliable.
4. Cover the dough and let it rest for an hour. -
Making the date filling:
5. Process dates, walnuts, orange zest and juice in a food processor.
6. Take a tsp of the filling and roll into a ball. Repeat for the entire amount. -
Shaping the Maamoul:
7. Take a tbsp of dough and roll into a ball.
8. Flatten the dough ball and add a date ball filling. Carefully seal the date ball with the dough. Ensure that there are no cracks and the date is fully covered with the dough. Smoothen with your fingers.
9. Place completed ball into a Maamoul mold. Press out to get the Maamoul piece. -
Baking:
10.Preheat the oven to 180°C.
11.Once the oven is heated, line the Maamoul on a parchment paper-lined baking tray and bake for 15 minutes. Cool completely and enjoy!
